Harry Ellison's 136 wasn't quite enough for Clevedon as they finished up agonisingly short of completing an incredible run chase against Minor Counties opposition.

Ellison struck 19 fours and two sixes in a 128-run innings and was well supported by skipper Jake Lintott (60).

Jack Houston (24) and Matt Carpenter (20) struck some lusty blows in the closing stages but it wasn't quite enough to haul a young Clevedon side over the line.

Earlier, Jack Harding (2-12) and Matt Carpenter (2-52) had been the pick of the bowlers, as Devon recovered from a slow start to post an imposing total, thanks mainly to Elliot Hamilton's 126 from 112 balls.

Zac Bess (59) also chipped in as Devon amassed a total that would prove to be just enough on the opening day of the season.
